The Timeless Tale of Theri Sanghamitta
Theri Sanghamitta, the sister of Mahinda, played a crucial role in establishing Buddhism in Sri Lanka. She brought a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment from India to Sri Lanka. This sapling was planted in Anuradhapura and is known as Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, now revered as the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date. The story of Sanghamitta and the Bodhi tree symbolizes the deep-rootedness of Buddhism in Sri Lankan culture.
